Sub-region Serra da Estrela

In 1908 the demarcated region of Dão was created, one of the most ancient of Portugal. Since then, stands out for the preservation of the traditional grape varieties and traditions, guaranteeing the genuineness and quality of its wines.

The wines of Dão are distinguished by their elegance and personality with a great aging potential.

The sub-region of Serra da Estrela is situated along the west slope of the mountain with 2.000-ish meters of altitude. Of granitic soils, its climate is marked by cold, with snow and very rainy winters, and warm and dry summers.

Here are produced great wines recognized by their minerality, elegance, freshness and longevity.

The 150 hectares of vineyards of Casa Américo are located in this sub-region, where the noble grape varieties of the Dão region are planted, the oldest vineyard is over 100 years-old. The altitude of our vineyards are approximately between 400 and 600 meters.
